What Is Volume Unit Conversion?
Volume conversion is the act of expressing the same amount of space using different units. The very same liter can be written as milliliters (mL) or cubic meters (m³) in the metric system, or as gallons, pints, cups, and ounces in the US customary system.
This converter handles 11 units, spanning metric units (mL, L, m³), US and UK units (gallon, pint, quart, fluid ounce), and cooking units (cup, tablespoon, teaspoon). It is especially handy whenever measurement systems get mixed up, such as following a foreign recipe, matching solution volumes in a chemistry experiment, or converting fuel economy from gallons to liters.
Calculation Formula
Every unit is first normalized to the base unit, liters (L), and then converted into the target unit.
result = value × (source factor) ÷ (target factor)
Each factor represents 'how many liters one unit equals.' For example, a US gallon is 3.78541 and a milliliter is 0.001. To convert 2 US gallons to milliliters: 2 × 3.78541 ÷ 0.001 = 7570.82 mL. Results are rounded to 6 decimal places.
